Core CPI Comes In Warm, Higher Rents To Blame

Core CPI came in at 1.8% in December, rising modestly from 1.7% in November. Despite oversupply issues in some multifamily markets, higher rents continue to explain the majority of the upward pricing pressure in the economy. Core CPI ex shelter remains just 1.0%.
